  • The Escalade Hybrid has Nothin on this Lexus!

    google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);

Lexus RX 450hEveryone was all excited when the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid was released.  Big Stinking deal!  Well the Escalade Hybrid gets 40% better fuel economy than the regular gas powered model.  No shit, the regular one get a piss poor 12 MPG in city!  And the Hybrid only manages to get 20 MPG….Well folks the Lexus blows those numbers away with its 30 MPG fuel economy.  The Lexus is also way cheaper, looks better, and is more practical!  Chew on that Detroit.  Now I’m not2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid knocking American Automobiles (ok….just a little) but do we really need a 5800-lb. SUV? The Lexus RX weights a whopping 1200-lbs. less.  All that extra weight the Escalade Hybrid carries around sure does hinder performance and handling! Oh and did I mention the Escalade Hybrid costs almost $30k more!

The 2010 Lexus RX 450h builds on the solid foundation that the previous generation hybrid SUV was known for; an ultra luxurious presence and hybrid technology.  This year the Lexus gets a cheaper price tag, better fuel economy, and most importantly more horsepower!  The RX 450h also gets a double wishbone suspension and regenerative braking at all 4 wheels which accounts for better batter recharging.

Lexus RX 450 HybridIt is visually similar to the RX 350 but has a few of its own design and styling. The new RX sports a unique grille, blue trimmed Lexus emblems, 19-inch rims, blue tinted head and tail lamps, and LED headlamps. Entering its second generation the new RX features the Lexus Hybrid Drive System with a 3.5 Liter V-6 engine integrated with a more efficient inverter that produces 295 horsepower (27 more hp than the current RX generation hybrid).  The Lexus’s Hybrid Drive system uses an updated exhaust heat recovery system that allows the car to shut down quicker and more often thus improving the MPG by shutting down during times of idle like at a stoplight.  There is also an exhaust recirculation system that uses the exhaust to help with engine pumping losses; whatever that means.   Both features help to improve and maximize fuel economy.  2010 Lexus RX450h Grill and Emblem

The RX 450h has front wheel drive or an electric part time all-wheel drive hybrid system.  Although the key feature in the RX 450h’s hybrid system is the electric motor generator allowing all four wheels to achieve regenerative braking ultimately charging the hybrid battery.  Of course there are all kinds of high tech accessories like NAV this and XM that, but you already know Lexus is going to give you all of these.  There is a high tech sound and entertainment system too!

If you’re looking for an SUV that is environmentally conscious and as sophisticated quality feel, then the 2010 Lexus RX 450h is the car you’re looking for.  Prices start a little over $40k.

  • Real Pimps Roll Convertibles

    new 2009 infiniti g37 convertible

BMW has had the luxury convertible car market cornered for a decade.  Recently Lexus and Volvo tried their hand at one of these vehicles, but it wasn’t until Infiniti showed their convertible that the car buying crowd sat up and took notice.  This has been one of the most anticipated releases in recent memory and it was quite a task for Nissan engineers to create a convertible from a regular coupe.

Infiniti’s G37 has been around for years, so why now should the brand make a convertible –Why not? The G37 Convertible is only the second drop top in Infiniti’s history although, it might as well be the first since few remember the Infiniti M30.

The new 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible body design is similar to Infiniti’s G37 coupe though it still has many body panels that are completely2009 infiniti g37 convertible unique to the redesign. With the top up, the Infiniti  G37 Convertible displays a softer and sleeker silhouette than the coupe but will not be mistaken by Infiniti fans. Styling details also include chrome accented strips on the rear deck, a modified grill, revised air intakes, and new skirts to further differentiate the convertible from the coupe. Infiniti says the design for the back is all new and includes structural reinforcements in the rear suspension and chassis. In comparison to its predecessor, it also has a wider rear track and extra inch of width overall.

  • The 2010 Chevy Camaro SS Muscle Car

2010 Chevy CamaroWith Dodge and Ford having already enjoyed the spotlight in this segment, Chevy has to be back with a bang.  Is this car worth the bit of attention?  The answer is an emphatic yes!

The 6.2 liter V8 under the hood screams power – this beast is capable of rocketing from zero to Camaro LS3 Enginesixty in right around four and a half seconds.  With more horses and much better time zero to sixty than either the new Mustang or the new Challenger – Chevy clearly made their point where most people want to see it, in sheer power.

A pleasant, unexpected surprise from the 2010 Camaro SS comes in terms of audibles – or lack there of.  There is no question that the engine is powerful, in fact at more than 425 horses it’s super powerful – in Muscle cars it’s customary for the engine noise to be almost loud enough to drown out any and all conversation that would take place in the cock-pit, that doesn’t happen with this incarnation of the SS.  A little quite for the Camaro as the Chevy has opted to keep the volume on the engine down.  Surely this will leave many car enthusiats dissapointed.  If you have to hear what’s under the hood, then roll down your window.

Another big surprise for a powerful Muscle car – the EPA just gave the 2101 Camaro SS “excellent fuel economy ratings”, which is highly unexpected, but could be a very strong selling point as the prices of gas continue to fluctuate.  The Camaro is not excatly apollogetic about keeping mother earth green.  At 16 MPG city and 24 MPG highway the guilt is washed away once you enjoy that power.

Chevy doesn’t preclude anyone from owning this car either – the base V6 Camaro starts at a very affordable twenty-three thousand and the ultra powerful V8 SS starts at right around thirty thousand.

Is there anything that Chevy could change that would make the 2010 Camaro better?  Sure there were some minor issues or concerns…

For starters, much like the new Dodge Challenger, the driver’s view could be a bit better.  With the current body style, there are a few more “blind spots” than would be considered comfortable, though some minor adjustments in interior design for the next version could most likely easily clear that up.  For the next version, Chevy could also look to eliminate some of the plastic in the interior in favor of a little more chrome and cloth.

camaro-interiorAside from those few minor adjustments, Chevy absolutely did not disappoint with the 2010 Camaro SS.  This car, all in all, is a fantastic piece of machinery and is at least head, if not head and shoulders above the competition in its class.

  • Forget Hybrids….Diesel Power Rules!

I have been saying for years now that Diesel power cars get the same fuel economy as hybrids; but no one wants to listen.  The very mention of the word “Diesel” makes people cringe at the thought of overly gross polluting Commercial Trucks and nasty Old Mercedes cars.

Well now that Diesel gas prices have fallen below the price of unleaded gas; it seems that feelings have changed.  Yeah I call these people bandwagoners!  Nevertheless Volkswagen has noticed a nice increase in Diesel sales over last year’s numbers.

The Jetta TDI is one hot new diesel car.  All things aside the mere fact that this car gets an EPA estimated 41 MPG on the highway is a great selling point!  And this number it would seem is a bit shy of the 50-60 miles per gallon that commuters have been experiencing.  Nevertheless the diesel model tends to get more than 40% better fuel economy than the 2.5-liter model.

    Jetta TDI Interior

The coolest thing about the TDI is the Turbo Power you get.  Turbo technology is the wave of the future and Volkswagen has been on the cutting edge for years now.  This particular car puts out a respectable 140 horsepower but a pavement pounding 271lb-ft of torque which is exactly what is need to get up to highway speeds!  The Jetta TDI also has the smallest Carbon Footprint of any of the Jetta models.  Yes this diesel is the cleanest Volkswagen on the road.  Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think? The 2009 Jetta TDI also offers all the bells and whistles such as airbags, navigation, a great sound system, power everything, and pretty much everything you would want in a mid-sized car.  Now the TDI model does cost about two-thousand more than the base model but you will get a nice rebate from Uncle Sam to help close that gap a bit! Jetta turbo Diesel

Right now as it stands Diesel gas is about $0.15 cheaper than regular unleaded gas!  So driving a regular 2.5 liter Jetta will cost you about $1700 in gas every 15k miles while the diesel TDI will only cost $1150.  So if gas prices remain constant you can save more than a few hundred dollars in gas just in one short year!

  • Ford SVT Creates a Monster Truck! The RAPTOR!

Ford’s Special Vehicles Team (SVT) which has produced some crazy cars like the Cobra and Lightning are going outside their comfort zone to create the greatest off-road truck ever offered by a car manufacturer.  The F-150 Raptor is a high-performance off-road truck that Ford hopes will sell like umbrellas on a rainy day.

This beast is powered by a V-8 engine that spews out 400 horsepower and 400lb-ft of torque;  which is necessary when climbing incredibly steep hills or blasting down a dirt road at impressive speeds.  Fuel economy and emissions are actually a bit better in this 2010 F-150 than previous years due to Ford’s open valve technology.

As with all Baja trucks the proof is in the suspension.  And the Raptor is no slouch.  The running track has been widened 7-inches compared to a stock F-150 and chassis has been modified to allow for much more suspension travel in order to absorb jumps.  The last piece of the puzzle is the hi-Tech Shock Absorbers from Fox Racing Shox.  These little gems include an internal bypass feature which allows the Raptor to have a comfortable street ride, and an excellent stiff off-roading ride.

The electronics on the Raptor in clued things like hill-descent and an electronic locking differential which are necessary when navigating the desert.    The Raptor will be available soon!
